Leonor Fini
Booth CO3
Galerie Minsky is delighted to announce its first participation in Art on Paper, presenting a curated selection of drawings, watercolors, gouaches, and oil works on paper by Leonor Fini (1907-1996).
Fini’s works on paper span from intimate drawings of friends and characters, to highly-diversified literary illustrations and imaginative designs for theatre, ballet, and cinema. An accomplished illustrator, she took on the demanding texts of Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, and Baudelaire, earning recognition from major poets, translators, and critics of her time, including Yves Bonnefoy, Alberto Moravia, and Georges Bataille. The exhibition showcases little-known drawings from Leonor Fini’s estate that capture the vivid spontaneity of the artist’s hand as well as more famous ones from the 40s and the 50s. Several exceptional oil paintings, such as the Sphinge, 1969, included in Leonor Fini’s Catalogue raisonné, stand out as pinnacles of her art on paper. The selection highlights some of her most emblematic themes, such as witches, metamorphoses — particularly through the figure of the sphinx — as well as her exploration of portraiture. Perhaps even more diverse than her canvases, Leonor Fini’s works on paper open a privileged window onto her unique position among the creators of the twentieth century.
